There's a lot that went into the history of "Santa Fe". Here's just a portion of material to be covered in my upcoming book tentatively titled:
Though the eastern hub changed several times, there was one thing in common with the route. It came along the Missouri, landed in Kansas City, and came southwest through now suburban Johnson County, Kansas. There are markers everywhere. And the more you look, the more these markers are visible. Here are eight sites we drove by over the weekend - taking a picture from each side of the road.
A new project! As the book progresses, we're looking to map every "Santa Fe / Oregon / California" Trail sign in the Kansas City area! Stay tuned! |
